Olympic history is a witness to the history of the world. The ancient Olympics were held every four years between August 6 and September 19 as part of a religious festival honoring Zeus, but they were discontinued in 393 AD.
The Games were named after Olympia, a sacred site in southern ancient Greece near the western coast of the Peloponnese peninsula. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a Frenchman, wanted to revive the ancient Olympic Games. He eventually became the modern Olympics Games’ founder. Ever since its launch, countries from all over the globe participate in the modern Olympics to showcase their athletic prowess to the world.
